Yahoo played musical chairs at the top this week, issuing a new mission statement and a new org chart while admitting the company needs a boost.

But while many observers, even those who support the changes, called the news proof that Google's success is threatening Yahoo, others say comparisons between the two companies are off base.

When it comes to search-based advertising revenue and market share, Google, they point out, is kicking Yahoo every which way. No question about that.
